In Robert Cochrane's sixth letter to Joe Wilson, he named what he called the Witch "Law":

Do not do what you desire - do what is necessary.
Take all you are given - give all of yourself.
"What I have - I hold!"
When all else is lost, and not until then, prepare to die with dignity.

I was just wondering, since there are many versions of witchcraft besides Robert Cochrane's, what people think of these laws?

I've always thought they were very practical laws, as laws go.

I also find these 'laws' to be worthy of inclusion into a/my spiritual/magickal way of life. I remember the very first time I read them and thought they resonated with worthy meaning. I find an axis of obligation and understanding to and of self, nature and others is woven into each stanza. If I may give an example of my thought process vis' the fourth stanza [When all is lost, but not until then, prepare to die with dignity].
This speaks to me as when the Goddess is in her dark aspect and ruling every aspect of your life. Every moment has the stench of terminal finality about it. There is no way that a possible way of continuing with an Earthly existence can be perceived. I believe the witch will know when the end of this phase has come. I spoke of an axis and I see such here. From Maiden to Mother unto Crone we should have grown within the knowledge of our craft. For many there will be an understanding that to die is but a step to another phase. That would be one end of the axis the other is the reason for a mask of dignity. To qualify this I should add that I agree with The Clan of Tubal Cain's take on The castle the spins without motion. It would be due to the belief that we would move on to start our cycle anew which would make us dignified at our last moments, thus the opposite end of the axis being the rebirth from the darkness of the crone to the light of the Maiden. That said, I have no desire to take up residence within my castle just yet, but I have an idea of what I am building for when I do.
