World Events: Do they parallel UnderWorld Events
In some magical systems the metaphor of "Crossing the Abyss" symbolises reaching a state of life and mind in which the reality that unfolds in the exoteric are indicative of the reality that exists in the esoteric.
You would have to be living in a barrel this last week to have missed the exoteric reality unfolding in Iran. So what possible message could this be delivering to those of a magical mind who have taken the ireversable step of crossing the boundary from mundane existence to the rarified spiritual reality of a Child of Light, a practitioner of the Art Magical.
First one needs to delve belowe the surface of the characature that has ruled the modern view of the Persian people and discover the rich vein of Iranian History and spirituality which was extirpated by our Western Ancesters during their murderous Cruisades. To do this you could not do better than to study the works of Henry Corbin. Start with "The Man of Light in Iranian Sufism". There are plenty of epiphanic revelations to be made in that work regarding the mystical underpinnings of Shi'ism as well as Sufism.
But to get to my question regarding the parallels between current World events and the UnderWorld Current lets look at a few possible points of interest between the highly organized Islamic Revolutionary Government of Iran and the nebulous non-organized melange of Traditional Covines and Clans. I'd say it is fairly well agreed upon at the public level that there is no such thing as a "One True Right and Only Way" to do Traditional Craft but I suspect that each and every Traditional System extant feels that they are the genuine article and therefore an aegis and portal that serves as the primary path to be reckoned with.
One is an exoteric stance and the other an internal belief. I don't see any perticular problem with that until you get to the issue of those who feel themselves entitled to pass judgement beyond the borders of their own Covines or Clan. This is the crux of the issue which has resulted in people being shot in the streets of Tehran. Political power has been invested in the hands of men who have wrangled positions of spiritual hegemony through one means or another. Surely the Iranian "Assembly of Experts" employed every spiritual tool in their kitbag when selecting Ali Khamenei as the Supreme Leader of the land. To now find fault with him and his pronouncement of the tragically obvious Voter fraud as divinely inspired leaves these holy men in one hell of a quandry. Fortunately those of us who follow the twisted road of the cunning craft do not find ourselves subject to any such problems as Hegemons or political force backed by armys and gangs of thugs.
But we do occasionaly find ourselves criticized, ridiculed and judged inadequate by those who have no standing other than their own hubris.
